Browns Sign OL Joel Reinders...Via YouTube
The Browns have signed a new offensive lineman to a free agent contract. His name is Joel Reinders and he has played in 8 organized games. I know you are probably scratching your head but you must know that the guy is 6’7” 320 pounds so I guess we can give him a shot right? Remember players like Antonio Gates hadn’t played organized football since High School when they were signed to their undrafted free agent contracts so maybe this guy might have something.
The Browns scouting department did all this without seeing him play a down in person. They turned to the powers of YouTube and found his clip of highlights. Perhaps Usher, part owner of the Cavaliers, pointed them in the right direction after he found teen super star Justin Bieber the same way. The clip is definitely impressive and with hard work and dedication from the coaching staff, Reinders might have a shot at making the team. He has already beat half the battle with his size alone. The other half is technique. You can teach technique but you can’t teach size. I think this guy might actually have something to offer the Browns organization.
Reinders grew up in Canada and played mostly hockey, but with his size basketball was inevitable. He played basketball his first 2 years at the University of Waterloo but ultimately turned to football. He was a dream come true for any coach because of his towering size.
So what’s the worst that could happen from all of this? Are people going to point and laugh at the Browns? So what if they do, we are used to it and we don’t care. Congrats to Reinders though, if this whole thing works out I’m sure there will be someone at his door who wants to make this into the next Blind Side.
Update: I have been informed that Mike Holmgren has connections to the Waterloo head coach and even offered him a job while he was in Seattle. This could be another reason as to why Joel Reinders landed in Cleveland, even though the mainstream media hasn't supported the idea.

Here we go Brownies...brought to you by Google! At least it wasn't via Facebook, right?
I'm definitely all for this move. Holmgren clearly knows what he is doing, and Mangini loves searching for potential diamonds in the rough. And it's not like this move hurts much, or is even taking the roster spot of someone that is much more deserving: as an UDFA, the odds are stacked against him to even survive the first round of cuts in training camp. Even that could be a stretch.
Why wouldn't you take a shot on a guy that big. As long as he is a worker, and willing to learn, the "up-side" is huge.
